Waddup everybody and welcome to another new week on the blawg!
Today I've decided to be slightly controversial and stick up a post discussing a few makeup products that I 'needed' in my life due to all the hype, but found to be just a lil' disappointing! By no means am I bad-mouthing these products, they simply just didn't want to work with me! So feel free to try them out for yourself to see what you think!
Lets get this partaayy started...
The Balm's 'Nude-tude' Palette
I picked up this palette when I was jetting over to the UK a few weeks ago, and to be honest I'm glad that I didn't pay full price! Usually it retails around €32 / €35 but because I decided to pick it up Duty Free it only cost me €22. The packaging and shade range in the palette are fab so I can't really critique that! It comes complete with a double-ended application brush (which sounds better than it actually is - ain't no Urban Decay quality here, I've never used it) & 12 shadows with super quirky names and a mix of shimmer, frost and matte finishes. Honestly, what disappointed me most about this was that it had such pretty shades but the colour just didn't transfer! You have to layer a lot of product to get any type of colour pay-off and on top of that, the shadows are super powdery! Bit of a no go for my liking - especially for the price!
Rimmel 'Apocalips' Lipgloss
When I swatched this gloss in the store I was so impressed with how pigmented it was. You don't even know - it's gorgeous! I can't fault the pigmentation or the stunning colour, but dear god are you screwed if it's a bit of a blustery day. Firstly it's super sticky, so expect mouthfuls of hair. What's worse is if that hair then decides to blow into your face with the gloss all over it - you're guaranteed to have pink everywhere... and it stains. It doesn't make for a good makeup day, especially when you're out with your friends for lunch and can't do much about the big blotch of pink on your cheek...
Benefit's the POREfessional 'Agent Zero Shine'
Not gonna lie - I was a little love-struck when I picked this stuff up at first and actually re-purchased it! After I gave it a glowing review at the start of the year, I got a little more wise where setting powders are concerned! You all know I'm a huge Benefit fan, so it makes me tear up a lil' to say that this product disappointed me. It really isn't anything to do with the product itself because I did enjoy using it, but I don't think you get enough product for the dolla that you shell out for it! The packaging makes it a little bit of a pain to use too! I personally just think there are better setting powders out there for the price!
Rimmel 'Wake Me Up' Foundation
You have no idea how much I wanted to like this foundation! I'd heard so many rave reviews about it that I just had to pick it up, but unfortunately it was a bit of a no go for me. Firstly, it was super hard for me to find a shade that matched my pasty skin colour - a problem that I have with most drugstore foundations. The formula itself just wasn't for me, it felt really wet on my skin and the problem that I have with a 'dewy' finish on oily skin types was becoming way too obvious for my liking. The scent also wasn't up my street, way too potent - no bueno!
So there's my round up of disappointing products so far this year. Again, I'm not saying that these aren't gonna work for your lahhhvely faces, they just didn't work for mine!
I'd love to know if any of you have had a similar experience with any of these products... or maybe you loved them and think I'm cray!
Let me know in the comments!
